How it works
Weight is cross-section times length times density. For plate and flat bar, A is the width and B the thickness; for round bar and tube A is the outside diameter; for hex and square bar it is the width across flats or the side length.
Formula
m = A × L × ρ plate: A = a·b round: A = π/4·a² tube: A = π·(a − t)·t hex: A = (√3/2)·a²
Densities are typical values; 7.85 g/cm³ suits most structural carbon steels. Actual weight may differ by a few percent due to rolling tolerances, so add a small margin for ordering and shipping.
