How it works
Yield is the share of input that comes out as good units, including reworked ones. First pass yield (FPY) is stricter: it only counts units that passed the first time without rework, so it exposes the hidden factory of repairs.
Formula
Scrap % = scrap / input Yield = (input − scrap) / input FPY = (input − scrap − rework) / input RTY = FPY1 × FPY2 × … × FPYn
For several consecutive steps, rolled throughput yield (RTY) is the product of the FPY of each step. It shows the probability that a unit gets through the whole process without any defect. Three steps at 95% each give only 85.7%.
